Amidst the stunning natural scenery of the Alcornocales National Park, where eagles soar above lofty slopes and the views are so expansive that they encompass the Mediterranean to the south and the Costa de la Luz to the west, this majestic country home is one of the most impressive southern Spanish residences that we have had the privilege to offer.

Within a prestigious rural estate of over 4,500 acres, an elegant driveway lined with olive trees, tall palms and oleander leads the way to the whitewashed façade of this beautiful home. Here, via a wrought iron gate, you are welcomed into a stone paved courtyard by the sweet scent of jasmine, an abundance of pretty foliage and the relaxing sound of water flowing through an ornate fountain.

It is an idyllic entrance to a beautifully furnished home and in the time-honoured style of a traditional Andalucian ‘cortijo’ it is via this courtyard that the accommodation is entered. On one side is the main house, within which three of the six bedrooms are to be found, whilst separately accessed on the other sides are three further bedrooms and a games room. Every room is presented with the stylish flair for interior design that the owner so clearly enjoys and yet at the same time this is a comfortable, cherished family home. Country furnishings and plump sofas instantly welcome whilst rich fabrics of tartan and soft velvet add a delightful touch of class.

With such captivating scenery and far-reaching views to be enjoyed, it is in the beautifully tended gardens that you will no doubt spend much of your time. Beyond the property’s southern and eastern facades, a lush carpet of manicured lawn spreads between colourful borders of flowering shrubs and a private family chapel, meandering down to the pool on one side and a tennis court on the other, and from this elevated position you will find yourself marvelling at the extensive vista, across the interlocking peaks of the rolling hills and southwards where the rock of Gibraltar can be seen in the distance.

It will come as no surprise to learn that the owners of this fine country estate are great lovers of the outdoors and their passion for hunting is proudly displayed in the many trophies that decorate the property, with one entire wall of the sitting room being devoted to a display of these achievements. Whilst the house remains very much part of the estate, your privacy is assured within the accommodation and its grounds from the moment you enter the courtyard.

For days out in this southwestern corner of Andalucía there are lots of options. A 35 minute drive to the east will take you to stylish Sotogrande which offers sandy beaches, a world class marina, designer shops, smart bars, renowned restaurants, golf and polo. In the other direction, on the seemingly endless sands of the Costa de la Luz, a more laid-back ambience can be found in the relaxed beach bars, sandy dunes and unspoilt beaches of Tarifa and Bolonia, just 40 minutes away by car. Closer to hand, shops and restaurants can be conveniently accessed in the local town of Los Barrios (14km) whilst for more active guests Dehesa Ahojiz is ideally located for joining the Valdeinfierno walking trail and the cycle route of Dos Bahías, a 93km greenway which runs from Puerto Real to Los Barrios.
