Built to the same exacting standards and with identical care, pride and attention to detail as its sister property (the wonderful Casa do Sol), Casa da Areia is an exceedingly comfortable, wonderfully proportioned holiday home. Privately located behind high walls and foliage the house is just 1.5km from the blue flag beach of Olhos d'Agua and within walking distance of some excellent amenities making the convenience of this location amongst our best on The Algarve.

A very airy property, virtually every room at Areia (Portuguese for ‘sand’) has direct access onto an outdoor terrace creating a lovely feeling of space and light which makes the house not only very welcoming but an ideal spot for relaxed summer living. On our first visit, as we strolled around the beautifully finished interior and lingered on the poolside sun terrace, our distinct (and lasting) impression was how quickly and effortlessly we felt at ease.

Decorated in nautical blue and white, the living accommodation is uncluttered, even unfussy… and all the more appealing for it. A testament to the owner’s good taste and practised eye for sympathetic colour combinations it is clear that elusive balance between practicality, comfort and simple, homely charm has more than been achieved here. Vaulted, Algarvean quinta-style ceilings in the living room and kitchen add character while several of the more substantial items of furniture were specifically commissioned for the house and duly hand-made to order. These now form part of a series of first class facilities that includes top of the range appliances in the kitchen, air conditioning in all the rooms and an en suite bath or shower for each bedroom.

The south-facing grounds have been professionally landscaped and stocked with a selection of palms and colourful local shrubs, the pool is a very good size and younger party members even have their own dedicated, solar heated pool to enjoy. A wide expanse of sun terrace, separate covered dining terrace and in-built barbecue near the kitchen offer everything needed for pleasurable outdoor living. The coastline around Olhos is well known for the striking natural contrasts of bright clay-coloured cliffs, vivid green of the tall umbrella pines and unbroken azure blue of the sky. The region’s marvellous beaches need little introduction being world famous for the quality, of their soft sand, clear waters and family friendly facilities. There is, indeed something for everyone in this wonderful part of the world where you will find totally unspoilt countryside just a few kilometres inland, an excellent choice of restaurants to suite all tastes and budgets and a fine selection of land and water sport facilities, which includes three championship golf courses within a 20 minute drive.
