You’ll board Golden Horizon in Civitavecchia, a small coastal city that serves as the main port for Rome (40 minutes away). It’s from here we start the first leg of our journey to the French Riviera. Arrive in Nice, the Cote d’Azur capital that exudes elegance and class. Take your time as you wander along the seafront Promenade des Anglais and wide boulevards, gazing at the grand 19th-century mansions, and stroll past colourful fruit and veg at the Cours Saleya Market.

We’ll visit two of the Mediterranean’s most famous and sizable islands on this voyage: Corsica and Sardinia. Both have stunning beaches, historic towns, a jaw-dropping interior and an independent spirit. Firstly we’ll visit the Corsican town of Calvi, home of a unique 13th-century citadel, a charming old town and a glorious white-sand beach. The best view of the citadel is claimed by climbing up to Notre Dame de la Serra, which legend says brings lovers good fortune. We then head to Porto Torres, the starting point for explorations of the sandy coves and maritime defences of northwest Sardinia. This is where you’ll find unearthed mosaics and crumbling columns at the Roman settlement of Turris Libsonis. Back on mainland Italy, we’ll visit Porto Santo Stefano, a lesser-visited Tuscan city that climbs up from the waterfront to the slopes of Mount Argentario and hides away many a cove below.

Voyage Highlights

Sample a selection of French and Italian wines in Nice. Discover the dozens of Bronze Age stone huts at Nuraghe Palmavera in Sardinia and explore some absolute gems of Tuscany.
