As the sun rises on another day and the weather gets warmer, it’s time for us to emerge from our hibernation. We surface, perhaps a little groggy from our lockdown slumber. We didn’t press stop, we just hit the pause button. It’s time to learn how to be fully functional again and to adapt to our new normal.
What that means in terms of the tourism industry is still unknown. With restrictions slowly easing around the world, what is clear is that the Coronavirus pandemic has fundamentally changed many aspects of our lives, in particular the way we travel.
In this hyper-connected world, our wings have been clipped and we now need to discover how to fly again. We need to regain a level of confidence before we commit to the next voyage.
A quick Google search reveals the Coronavirus World Map. Which countries have had low or even no cases? The Seychelles has had only 11 cases out of its near 100,000 population. The Maldives has recently declared itself Coronavirus free. St.Lucia, Dominica, St.Kitts & Nevis are all unscathed. Emails start to crowd our inboxes with “Dust Off Your Passport” and “Travel in Europe With Confidence” headlines but we remain cautious, hesitant and wary.
The two things we are craving is a change of scenery and spending quality time with those loved ones who we have been locked away from. Our freedom of movement has been curtailed and whilst physical and geographical challenges remain, there is still a way we can satisfy the holiday hankerings. The staycation.
The staycation or nearcation is very much this year’s theme and is centred on making the most of the beautiful destinations and stunning rural landscapes that are close to home.
Renting a private villa in a beautiful location that is driving distance from base camp can provide the luxury, relaxation and peace of mind without the airports, flying or social distancing challenges. A home away from home promotes family togetherness. A short road trip to a new place is far enough away to feel like a real holiday but close enough to home to remain safe and protected.
Prioritising our safety and wellbeing is essential. By booking a staycation, any risk and fear is replaced with reward and gratification. Local destinations that are off the beaten track and far from the madding crowd are appealing for so many reasons.
The recent partnership between MH Bland Travel and CV Villas offers a gorgeous selection of private family rentals in very accessible locations that provide a self-isolating paradise. A perfect solution for families who love the mix of independence and full privacy.
Visualise the perfect instagrammable views of the rugged mountainous terrain from the terrace. Imagine being immersed in the bewitching gravity of an infinity pool while the kids play in the garden. Envisage the conversations with family around the BBQ overlooking the sleepy pueblo blancos high in the hills. Summer is definitely not cancelled.
If we are going to travel anywhere this summer, we really need to make it count and the staycation or nearcation option is too good to ignore. Our homes have been doubling up as offices, schools, restaurants and gyms and we are crying out for options to curb our restlessness. It’s time for some real downtime.
We are all scarred from this pandemic in one way or another but a change in our everyday environment can help us heal. We can still immerse ourselves in a relaxing and indulgent environment spent with family and friends without the 04:30am alarm call, the inconvenience of airport security and the hassle of lost luggage. Renting a spacious and luxurious private villa also represents a lower cost alternative as the price of the accommodation can be shared. There’s nothing not to like.
